BREEDING TURKEYS AS A BUSINESS IDEA IN HOME

Breeding turkeys is profitable. The increase in meat in farm birds is significantly higher compared to animals. Especially when it comes to turkeys, which lead a calm lifestyle and do not spend a lot of energy, as chickens. With a feed cost of 3 kg per turkey, the meat gain is 1 kg. For comparison, pigs need 7 kg of feed to get 1 kg of meat. For these reasons, poultry farming today is in the category of super-profitable business.

Turkey meat is in great demand. This meat is not inferior to chicken according to its characteristics. The most difficult step in breeding turkeys is nursing the chicks until the 1st month. And then these birds are not whimsical in content to eat a variety of feed types. These large birds give not only a lot of meat, but also fluff, feathers, litter for fertilizer. Next, we consider in more detail the advantages and disadvantages of a business idea for breeding turkeys at home.

MAIN GROWING TURKEYS BEFORE THE MONTH
Content turkey poultry. The most difficult period when breeding turkeys is the first month of the life of turkeys. It is then that you should pay a lot of attention when caring for a bird. An important advantage of turkeys over chickens is a high percentage of hatchability – 90%. It is worth noting that turkey poultry peel well in incubator conditions. No worse than under a turkey. The turkey itself is a very caring mother. It is often used to hatch any type of farm bird. For a turkey you need to build a nest of straw 40 x 40 cm. 13-17 eggs should be placed under one bird. Eggs should be stored at a temperature of 12-15 degrees, but not more than 10 days. Tip !: eggs should be taken from females after two weeks of onset of egg production. They are then almost all fertilized. The female willingly sits down to incubate eggs, and after hatching, she carefully nurses offspring. The hatching period of turkey eggs is 28 days.

The first two days after hatching turkey poultry need round-the-clock lighting. And then the light period is required to be reduced gradually by 30 minutes. On the twentieth day there should be 15 hours of light. Poultry is very sensitive to drafts and colds. It is important to observe the temperature regime, as shown in the table:

TURKEYS NEED SPECIAL DIET
Poultry eat food. Only hatched turkeys need to be drunk with boiled water with green tea and sugar (1 tablespoon per 1 liter of water). And so for 3 days, and then you can give raw water at room temperature. Due to its antiseptic properties, green tea strengthens the immunity to cling. It is not recommended to add potassium permanganate to water.

Due to their special body structure and mass, turkey poultry need special nutrition compared to other farm birds. For the first time, 3 weeks of poultry gain weight quickly, and in adult birds the average daily gain is 50 g. The first month is better to feed the chicks with PK-5 compound feed with the addition of vitamins. There are special vitamin supplements for the diet to cling turkey to all kinds of vitamins, amino acids and minerals.

After a month, turkeys can be fed with cheaper feed mixtures (chopped corn, barley and bran), but so far with the addition of useful ingredients such as cottage cheese, grated carrots, fish offal. Turkeys are especially in need of B vitamins. To do this, you can add a little dry yeast to the feed. Also in this period it is already possible to give turkeys steamed porridge. Steaming with boiling water eliminates starch in cereals, which is not digested. In this form, the food is easily digested and absorbed. Thus, the efficiency of the feed is increased.

TURKEYS HAVE BEST MEAT GROWTH
Big turkeys. Turkeys lead a calm lifestyle and spend less energy compared to chickens. This allows them to increase their weight by an average of 80 grams every day. The average daily gain in meat is 47-53g. For 5-6 months, turkeys are ready for slaughter with their live weight of 17-19 kg – males and 9-12kg – females. Slaughter yield in turkeys is 65%.
